The #1 Coaching Scam No One Talks About (But You Need to Know)

This week’s Newsletter is brought to you by:
The Linkedin Impact Accelerator
A fun, simple group program designed to help you unlock LinkedIn’s potential for growth by embracing your authentic voice, building genuine connections, and positioning yourself as a thought leader, without the fluff or inauthentic tactics.
The BS That is False Scarcity
I get asked all the time what to watch out for when choosing a coaching program. What are the red flags? Who’s legit, and who’s just after your credit card info?
The biggest red flag I see again and again is the “in-call price reduction” tactic.
How This Sneaky Trick Works
You book a "discovery call" with a coach. They seem nice. They’re saying all the right things. Their offer sounds like it might actually help you. As the conversation goes on, you start to feel pretty excited, maybe this is the thing that will finally move the needle for you.
Then… BLAM! 💥
They drop the big ol’ high-ticket price on you. It’s hefty. It stings a little. Maybe even a lot.
(Oh, and by the way, they’ve been taught to do this by their own mastermind coach, but we’ll get to that later.)
Just as you’re getting over the initial sticker shock, here comes the “one-time” deal:
"If you buy today, right now, on this call, you can save $2,500!"
Wait… what? 🤔
Why This is Complete and Utter Nonsense
So let me get this straight: if I need 24 hours to think it over, the program is suddenly worth $2,500 more?
Riiiight. 😑
Oh, and don’t worry, when you say you don’t have that kind of money right now, they’ll have a script for that too. Something about “breaking it up onto multiple credit cards” or “investing in yourself.” (they have been taught this too)
I. HATE. This. Tactic.
It’s manipulative. It’s sleazy. And if you take a step back, it’s just plain stupid.
But here’s the thing…
Why Do Coaches Do This?
Because it works.
This false scarcity plays with your brain, making you feel like you’ll miss out on a life-changing opportunity if you don’t act right this second.
And guess what? That coach was probably sold the exact same way.
They likely joined a high-ticket mastermind where they were pulled in using this exact strategy. Then, they were trained to use it on others. And now, they’re using it on you. YAY!
I know this because I’ve been in this space for 8 years, and I’ve heard hundreds of regretful entrepreneurs tell me they got pressured into buying something they couldn’t afford and didn’t need.
So, How Do You Identify a Good Coaching Program?
Transparency: The price, the offer, and the results should be clear from the start. The moment someone starts playing the false scarcity game, transparency has left the building.
An ROI Guarantee: The best high-ticket coaching programs stand by their offer so much that they guarantee a return on investment. If you ever see me promoting another coach’s program, it’s because they offer this.
Final Thought
As an entrepreneur: especially a new entrepreneur, you need to know there’s an entire predatory coaching industry out there. They make big promises, take your money, and leave you feeling discouraged and broke.
Don’t fall for it. Real coaches don’t need to pressure you into buying.
This week in the Dare2Grow Collective?
February was an incredible month of growth in the community.
In March we have new cohort starting in the Linkedin Impact Accelerator, The Newsletter Growth Accelerator, and the Pitch and Offer Accelerator.
It has also been amazing watching our live group coaching calls continue to grow in attendance.
This month we are also adding a new value add to the community thanks to the suggestion of some of our amazing community members: Virtual Co Working Hours, a place in the week to set aside to get shit done :).
The quest continues to build a community of support that rivals a 20k mastermind for just $300 bucks a year. I invite you to come and be a part of what we are building at Dare2Grow .
Guarantee: I want everyone in this community to feel they’re getting real value. If you join and realize it’s not the right fit, no problem! You have 7 days to request a full refund—no questions asked, no hard feelings. 😊
