Impatience will kill your business

This week’s Newsletter is brought to you by:
The Linkedin Impact Accelerator
A fun, simple group program designed to help you unlock LinkedIn’s potential for growth by embracing your authentic voice, building genuine connections, and positioning yourself as a thought leader, without the fluff or inauthentic tactics.
As an entrepreneur, you’re wired to want things now. That deal, those clients, the revenue targets, they’re all supposed to happen yesterday.
And hey, I get it. Waiting feels like failure wearing a poorly tailored suit. But here’s the thing: your impatience? It’s your Achilles heel, your biggest vulnerability, and, brace yourself, the thing that makes you prime bait for predatory business coaching.
Yes, you heard that right.
The Entrepreneur’s Shortcut Syndrome
You know how the fitness industry lures you in with promises of six-pack abs in six days using equipment that looks like it doubles as a medieval torture device?
The business coaching world has taken notes. Instead of miracle crunches, they peddle overnight success. Flashy ads, stories of "I made a million dollars in six weeks with just Wi-Fi and vibes," and exclusive formulas that no one else has discovered. Spoiler alert: It’s all just kettlebells and smoke screens.
The formula is simple: play on your fear of missing out. These coaches sell the illusion of skipping the hard work, the sleepless nights, and the trial-and-error that entrepreneurship actually demands. They package it with words like transformational and game-changing. Oh, and don’t forget the timer ticking down on their sales page. That’s just psychology 101: urgency equals dollar signs.
Turn Off the Damn Phone
Let’s be real for a second. Half of your impatience isn’t even yours: it’s the result of doom-scrolling through social media feeds packed with people who seem to have figured it all out. You know the ones: posing next to Lamborghinis, sipping overpriced coffee, and dropping captions like “Another 50K day! DM me if you’re ready to level up!”
Here’s a revolutionary idea: turn off your phone. No, seriously. If you cannot control yourself. Hit the power button, delete the apps, or at least mute those people.
Social media is like a digital carnival, bright lights, loud noises, and enough distractions to make you forget what you came for. And those "very convincing" gurus? They’re like the folks running the rigged ring toss: masters at separating you from your money.
When you stop bombarding your brain with these curated, too-good-to-be-true highlights, you’ll notice something magical: your FOMO starts to fade. Without the constant noise, you can focus on your path, not theirs. After all, you don’t need their fast-track-to-nowhere programs, you need clarity, a plan, and some good old-fashioned hard work.
The Harsh Truth: No One Can Fast-Forward Success
Here’s where I burst the bubble (gently, I promise): there’s no cheat code to entrepreneurial success. Sure, every now and then, you hear about someone who hits it big overnight.
But more often than not, those “overnight” successes are flukes: dumb luck, perfect timing, or being at the right place during a planetary alignment. They’re the exception, not the rule.
If you’ve been sold a golden ticket to success, I hate to break it to you, it’s probably chocolate.
The Real Path to Success: Patience and Persistence
Every successful entrepreneur I’ve had the privilege to coach has followed the same reliable recipe: patience and persistence. That’s it. Not a secret algorithm. Not a VIP mastermind retreat in the Bahamas. Just good old-fashioned grit.
Patience lets you stay the course when it feels like you’re treading water. It stops you from chasing every shiny new object (or coach) that promises a quick win.
Persistence, on the other hand, is what gets you out of bed when the numbers look bleak, your inbox is a desert, and your big idea feels like a dud. Together, these two traits are an unbeatable power duo.
Don’t Get Hustled: Get to Work
So, what’s the moral of the story? Stop looking for shortcuts and start embracing the journey. The truth is, entrepreneurship is more marathon than sprint. And like any long-distance race, success comes down to pacing yourself and showing up, day after day.
Oh, and the next time someone promises you the key to fast-tracking success, save yourself the money. You don’t need their "secret sauce." You already have the only ingredients you need: patience, persistence, and maybe a little less impatience.
